Keith Campbell, a professor at the University of Georgia , which is 57 percent female, put it this way: Women on gender-imbalanced campuses are paying a social price for success and, to a degree, are being victimized by men precisely because they have outperformed them, Professor Campbell said. In this way, some colleges mirror retirement communities, where women often find that the reward for outliving their husbands is competing with other widows for the attentions of the few surviving bachelors.

Day after day, you wait for the casualties to show up from the alleged campus rape epidemic—but no one calls. Could this mean that the crisis is overblown? It means that consultants and counselors need more funding to persuade student rape victims to break the silence of their suffering. The campus rape movement highlights the current condition of radical feminism, from its self-indulgent bathos to its embrace of ever more vulnerable female victimhood.

But the movement is an even more important barometer of academia itself. The academic bureaucracy is roomy enough to sponsor both the dour antimale feminism of the college rape movement and the promiscuous hookup culture of student life. This claim, first published in Ms. By the early s, campus rape centers and hour hotlines were opening across the country, aided by tens of millions of dollars of federal funding.

Victimhood rituals sprang up: In , for example, Yale created a new Sexual Harassment and Assault Resources and Education Center, despite numerous resources for rape victims already on campus. No crime, much less one as serious as rape, has a victimization rate remotely approaching 20 or 25 percent, even over many years. The violent crime rate in Detroit, one of the most violent cities in America, was 2, murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults per , inhabitants—a rate of 2.

The one-in-four statistic would mean that every year, millions of young women graduate who have suffered the most terrifying assault, short of murder, that a woman can experience.

To today’s college students, it’s booty call, hooking up, or friends with benefits. But a new study shows that no-commitment sex — although rampant on college campuses — still leaves women in their 20s feeling disillusioned. The month nationwide study, sponsored by the Independent Women’s Forum, looked at sexuality, dating , courtship, and marriage, and involved in-depth interviews with a diverse group of 62 college women on 11 campuses.

These were supplemented by minute telephone interviews with a nationally representative sample of 1, college women. That translates today into what’s known as hooking up or friends with benefits: In reality, “women are losing out,” she tells WebMD. It tells women there’s something wrong with you if you can’t accept this lack of commitment. There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with hooking up.

It’s not a moral issue. I just don’t think women are happy. College-age men are looking for sex only — “that’s their predominant preoccupation. Women at that age want a meaningful interaction with someone; sex is not their priority.

At the same time, other considerations were just as important as geographic location, including large proportions of the student population being Asian American and students of color, and a decent representation of Asian American faculty, administrators, and student organizations.

In the Aloha state, Asian people and culture are the norm. It’s the complete opposite of the mainland. I grew up in Maryland, lived in New York and California and I’ve never felt more comfortable in my life than here in Hawaii. For Asian Americans, if you choose to come to school at UH, you will be completely at home here. Right now my school believes that a multicultural office a new development will be sufficient to handle the diverse needs of not just students of color, but all women in general mind you, my school is a women’s college.

The [administration has] no clue as to what true diversity is. I would advise anyone who values their culture and socioeconomic background not to come to Scripps College. In fact, people who continue to choose a university solely based on its Asian American resources may easily miss out on plenty of opportunities found at other universities. For instance, my school has never been known to be ‘conducive’ to an Asian American identity, but this doesn’t mean the school can’t change.

And if students of Asian descent choose not to attend just because of it’s ‘white-washed’ history, then the school will never become conducive to an Asian American identity. I feel students who go where they feel comfortable will have a more difficult time reaching their full potential.
